Covilhã: final partner meeting and an open focus group
At the University of Beira Interior, the partners reviewed a year of work and asked researchers, students and professionals what they need from training in 3D printed earth.

From 17 to 19 September 2026, Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI) hosted the final EARTH3D partner meeting at its Faculty of Engineering in Covilhã, Portugal.
Building with biomass and wool
The programme opened in UBI’s Construction Technology Laboratory with a hands-on workshop, “CO₂ Mineralisation: Building with Biomass and Wool”, where participants worked with low-carbon materials and saw how CO₂ can be captured in construction materials. The workshop was shared with the second international seminar of a NAWA strategic partnership (Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange), which brought researchers from Portugal, Poland, Greece and Italy to Covilhã in the same days.
An open focus group
On the second day, UBI’s Learning Construction Laboratory hosted the EARTH3D focus group on 3D printing raw earth technology, open to researchers, students and professionals. After an introduction to the guide and the platform, participants discussed their own experience, the barriers they meet when using sustainable 3D printing in architecture and construction, the skills they are missing, and where they see the technology going.
Architecture shaped by its landscape
The meeting closed with a study visit to Castelo Novo, a historic village in the Serra da Gardunha, to see how traditional architecture responds to local materials and climate: the same questions that 3D printed earth asks today.
