Inside the six modules of the EARTH3D course
From first principles to printing equipment: how the free EARTH3D course is built, and what every module contains.

The heart of EARTH3D is a free online course on 3D printing with raw earth. It has six modules, each written by the partner with the most relevant expertise:
| Module | Topic | Written by |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Introduction and Basic Concepts | Vidipost |
| 2 | Architectural Design and Urbanism | Commune Studio |
| 3 | Materials Technology | Universidade da Beira Interior |
| 4 | Engineering Technology | Universidade da Beira Interior |
| 5 | Equipment for 3D Printing with Raw Earth | Vertico |
| 6 | Best Practices in 3D Printing with Raw Earth | Vertico |
The same format in every module
To keep the course easy to follow, also on a phone and in a second language, every module has the same parts:
- a short introduction video;
- a lecture in three short video parts;
- illustrated slides to read;
- a self-assessment test of 10 to 15 multiple-choice questions;
- links to further reading.
An example: classify the machine, not the brand
Module 5 teaches learners to ask two questions of any printer: how does the frame move, and how does the material reach the nozzle? With these two questions, any earth printer can be understood, whatever its brand.
Reviewed by the whole partnership
Each module was reviewed by the other partners and revised several times. Universidade da Beira Interior checked the scientific consistency of the content, and Vertico its technical and practical accuracy. All videos have subtitles.
